An advisory is the tester’s official “watch this” note. At that test the item was recorded for attention; it did not fail the test. It is not a statement about the car today. Advisories are recorded on the certificate and in the public MOT history.

Whether a given wording matters is answered on that wording’s own page. This hub does not invent an item rate.

What the pass-group data says next. Of the 24,206,302 Class 4 vehicles that passed a 2024 MOT (first normal test), 92.7% (95% CI 92.7–92.7) were tested again in 2025. 18.2% (95% CI 18.2–18.2) of that 2024 pass group had at least one 2025 failure recorded; cars not tested in 2025 count as not having failed.
