What a comparable quote should include
- The codes, soot or ash estimate, and differential-pressure readings that support the recommendation
- Whether the job is diagnosis, a workshop-controlled regeneration, on-car treatment, off-car cleaning or replacement
- The underlying sensor, temperature, fuelling or journey issue that will be corrected
- Before-and-after evidence, VAT and warranty
How to get two comparable quotes
- Give both garages the same written brief: registration, symptoms, stored codes and any diagnosis already done
- Ask each for a written estimate that lists diagnosis, parts, labour, VAT, fluids, extras and warranty as separate lines
- If the scopes differ, ask the thinner quote to match the fuller one, or treat them as different jobs
- Compare the evidence and the line items, not the total alone. Do not authorise work from a verbal figure or a code printout

Safety boundary
Forced regeneration, filter removal and emissions-system repair are specialist workshop work. Do not work beneath an unsupported vehicle or attempt regeneration in an enclosed space; the exhaust and filter can be dangerously hot.
