How to diagnose P0128 yourself
- Confirm P0128 and freeze-frame: Scan with an OBD-II reader. Note whether P0128 is current or pending, coolant temperature in freeze-frame if shown, and any other stored codes. Stop if: The temperature warning is already red, you see steam, or freeze-frame shows an over-temperature event.
Park safely and switch off before locating the socket. Its position varies, so use the vehicle handbook and never force or dismantle trim. - Observe warm-up without opening the cap: From a cold start, drive or idle in open air and watch the dashboard temperature gauge.
