Car loses power when accelerating: limp mode or load fault?

Sudden capped power with a warning light is usually limp mode; gradual hesitation under load can be boost leakage, DPF restriction, fuel pressure, airflow sensing or petrol ignition breakdown. Restarting may restore power but does not erase the stored evidence.

Move out of fast traffic safely. Stop if the engine light flashes, oil/temperature warning appears, there is heavy smoke or abnormal turbo noise. Do not repeatedly floor the car to reproduce a fault on public roads.
